Southampton will look to leapfrog Brentford on their EPL ladder with a midweek win at home. The Saints currently sit 14th – two points and two places shy of the promoted Bees.

Southampton have lost only one of their last six. In their last two games, they upset West Ham 3-2 at London Stadium on Boxing Day then held Tottenham to a 1-all draw at home two days later. Captain James Ward-Prowse has scored in each of the Saints’ last three games.

Brentford suffered post-Xmas losses at Brighton (2-0) and at home to Man City (1-0), but they bounced back with a 2-1 home win over Aston Villa on January 2. Yoane Wissa cancelled out Villa’s early strike with a goal late in the first half, before Mads Roerslev found the 83rd-minute winner.

Both teams recorded FA Cup wins on the weekend: Southampton edged Swansea (3-2) and Brentford thrashed Port Vale (4-1).

Southampton could be without up to 10 top-liners, according to coach Ralph Hasenhuttl.
