Rioli faces long stint on sidelines

Hawthorn’s weekend match-winner Cyril Rioli faces at least seven weeks on the sidelines – and perhaps longer – after injuring his hamstring in the AFL victory over North Melbourne.

Rioli has confirmed on Monday he has a high-grade lower hamstring tear, and won’t play again until after Hawthorn’s round 11 bye.

“It’s probably not looking too good,” Rioli said after his injury late in the narrow win over the Kangaroos in which he booted four goals.

“It’s sort of about getting it right. I sat down with the staff today. We haven’t put a timeframe on it yet (but) not before the bye.

“No surgery … normal rehab and trying to get it right.”

The Hawks also lost key defender Ryan Schoenmakers the previous week to a serious knee injury.

Schoenmakers will be out for the rest of the season.

The Hawks have a 4-1 win-loss record and face Adelaide away on Saturday.
