Crows brace to lose Walker

Adelaide forward Taylor Walker is learning his footballing fate amid fears he’ll miss a year with a knee injury.

Walker’s scan results on his injured knee will be publicly known later on Monday.

The star forward and club doctor Andrew Potter were receiving scan results as Walker’s teammates trained lightly on Monday morning.

The worst case is a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a year out of the game as some Crows still hold hopes for minor damage and a month on the sidelines.

Walker was injured in the first quarter of Adelaide’s loss to Carlton on Saturday and his absence creates major problems for the Crows.

Adelaide, struggling with two wins and three losses, are also still trying fill the forward line hole left by Kurt Tippett’s acrimonious split to Sydney.

Veteran backman Ben Rutten says the Crows need a lift from many players to cover Walker’s absence as well.

“It’s not going to be one guy that is going to be able to replace Tex (Walker). We’ll need more contributors scoring goals,” Rutten told reporters on Monday.

“That is the way we are going to have to approach it.

“For however long Tex is out for, it’s going to be disappointing for him.

“We are just going to have to re-jig and find ways to score goals.”

Rutten will play his 200th AFL match against Hawthorn on Saturday as the Crows seek some consistency without Walker.

“It has been a common theme throughout the pre-season and the five games this year – it has been up one week and down the next,” Rutten said.

“We’re still trying to get that consistency of 22 performers each week.”
