2009 US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro underwent surgery on his left wrist on Tuesday, just days after pulling out of the Australian Open.
Del Potro had the operation at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and said on his Facebook page he did so at the recommendation of his physician.
The surgery was done by Dr Richard Berger, who operated on del Potro’s same wrist 10 months ago. He also operated on the Argentine’s right wrist in 2010, the year after he won the US Open.
Del Potro’s management said in a statement the Argentine would resume training in two weeks.
It did not say when he might play again.
