Hewitt locks horns with Groth at Brisbane

Maria Sharapova will be out to ensure she does not join the growing list of big-name victims at the Brisbane International when play resumes on Tuesday.

The top seed will take on Kazakhstan’s Yaroslava Shvedova and will be hoping to avoid the same fate as former world number one Victoria Azarenka, who fell in to Karolina Pliskova on Monday night to round out a day of upsets.

In the men’s draw, the main event sees Lleyton Hewitt lock horns with fellow Australian Sam Groth.

Two other Aussies are also in action, and both are up against Americans – Marinko Matosevic will face Steve Johnson, while wildcard John Millman plays Rhyne Williams.

Bernard Tomic and Thanasi Kokkinakis, the two Australians who will play off in the second round, will also take to the court in the men’s doubles.

Play begins from 11am AEST.
