For the second straight season, Macarthur and Brisbane will face off in Round 1 with one of these sides having featured in the Australia Cup Final earlier in the month.

A fortnight ago, Brisbane fell to Sydney FC in their quest to claim the first piece of silverware of the season, but the signs of the Ross Aloisi revolution are clear in the River City.

The change in approach was evident throughout their cup run and one of the league’s most inefficient attacks has new life, lead by 18-year-old striker Thomas Waddingham.

As for Macarthur they have undergone an overhaul of their own this offseason with Mile Sterjovski getting the full time gig after taking over from Dwight Yorke in the midst of their wooden spoon season.

Macarthur looks like a side that has a very wide range of potential finishing positions this year, they could be competitive if a couple of things go right or they could struggle if injuries take hold.

Brisbane was an enjoyable watch during their cup run but the Bulls are the best example of Cup runs not translating to regular season success, so I’ll sit on the fence and back the draw before buying in on the Roar.
