Liverpool vs Aston Villa 2014 EPL Round 4 preview, tips and teams

The Villans head to Anfield on Saturday to take on a buoyant Liverpool FC, who last week went to White Hart Lane and gave a masterclass in pass-and-move football whilst banging in 3 goals to which Spurs were unable to find an answer. Brendan Rodgers it seems, can do no wrong after restoring Anfield to the fortress of old, a place that visiting teams would fear to come. While Chelsea and Manchester City are this year’s title favourites with Arsenal at the outside, it is to the detriment to ignore a Liverpool side brimming with amazing talent.

Liverpool have recorded two wins and one loss so far, that result coming against Man City where they were punished for two lapses in concentration to give a final scoreline of 3-1, a scoreline that really didn’t tell the whole story. Liverpool were dominant in possession for much of the game, however Manchester City have players who are able to produce magic at the drop of a hat, owing probably to a net spend of over Ł1 billion both on player recruitment and operational activities.

Injury news and Liverpool are without Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson for the visit of Aston Villa, however in contrast to the last couple of seasons, Liverpool have plenty of depth on their books, able to call upon Mariel Balotelli and Joe Allen to fill the spaces left by the two crocked players. Balotelli has yet to find the net in his maiden season with Liverpool, however against Spurs it was only the acrobatics of Hugo Lloris that kept Balotelli off the scoresheet. Adam Lallana looks set to make a return, while José Enrique has also returned from a long spell on the sidelines to battle for a place against Alberto Moreno who scored a wonder goal last week against Tottenham.

Aston Villa rarely have much joy at Anfield however fans will bequick to cast minds back to August 2009, when Aston Villa ran out 3-1 winners. In 186 games between these two historic sides Aston Villa have lost 91 times, however as always, history goes out of the window during such occasions.

Back to the present and we see Gaby Agbonlahor achieving icon status for Aston Villa, and signing a new four-year contract. Villa currently sit in third place in the Barclays Premier League picking up two wins and one draw while Liverpool lie in joint fourth with Man City. Villa’s only problem it seems is finding goals having scored only three on their way to third position in the fledgling season. Liverpool however carry no such woes having put six away, even though their defence could be accused of being a little leaky after having conceded four goals in their first three games. Sporting a new look back four however, it could just be a case of teething problems while new teammates gel and bond. It will be up to Aston Villa to take advantage of any uncertainty amongst Liverpool’s back four when they travel to fortress Anfield this weekend.
