Manighar wins 2012 Australian Cup

Peter Moody trained Manighar has taken out the second of the Group 1 races at Flemington racecourse the $1 million dollar Australian Cup.

Manighar jumped as the third favourite on S-Tab at $5.90 and sat midfield during the run and fought off a strong challenge from the 2011 Caulfield Cup winner Southern Speed but was able to kick back on the inside to win by a nose on the line.

Race favourite and the 2010 Melbourne Cup winner Americain sat second last and made up a lot of ground in the straight to run a very close third and likely to have won the race had it been twenty meters longer.
