Ryan among new Storm NRL shareholders

Successful businessman and Orica-GreenEDGE cycling team owner Gerry Ryan has been named as one of the final three shareholders and directors of the revamped Melbourne Storm.

Matthew Tripp and Michael Watt were also added to the board of Holding MS Australia Pty Ltd, who bought the NRL club from News Limited two weeks ago.

Ryan, the founder of caravan company Jayco Australia, is a long-time passionate fan and backer of the Storm.

Tripp is a former chairman of corporate bookmaker Sportsbet.

New Zealand-born Watt is a leading investor in stage musicals and has been involved in the sale of international broadcast rights for major sports events.

“The shareholder group we have assembled has a vast amount of experience in the sports and entertainment field,” Storm non-executive chairman Bart Campbell said in a statement.

“Both Gerry and Matthew are Melbourne born and bred. They are proud of their city and the Storm’s representation of it on the field.

“It’s important we can tap into their local market knowledge and expertise as we go forward.

“Michael moved to Melbourne at a young age. His business interests have taken him abroad, however his business investments in major musicals allow him to return regularly.”
