Guerra wants to end Qld Origin duck

Given Queensland’s years of State of Origin dominance, Aidan Guerra goes into next week’s series finale in a unique position.

The back-rower is yet to taste victory in a Maroons jersey.

Experienced stars such as Cameron Smith (19 wins), Johnathan Thurston (18) and Nate Myles (17) need to take off both shoes to tally up their Origin victories.

Debutant Will Chambers is the only other member of the Maroons squad without an Origin win to his name.

It might not sound so devastating when you consider Guerra will make just his third appearance on Wednesday in Brisbane.

But the 26-year-old says breaking his duck is a personal motivation as the Maroons aim to avoid a series whitewash against NSW.

“That doesn’t sit well with me,” Guerra told AAP.

“I really want to be a part of what has been such a strong culture as a Queensland Maroon. At the moment, I feel like I’m part of it but I really want to taste that success with the boys.”

Guerra’s Origin emergence has been one of the brighter moments for the Maroons in this year’s series.

The Sydney Roosters’ premiership player has usurped Chris McQueen and Josh Papalii to move from the bench to a starting role and looks set for a long Queensland career.

But while the series has been good personally, capping it off with that breakthrough win will be the perfect end.

“I’m more worried about what we can achieve as a team rather than what I’ve achieved,” he said.

“Right now, we’re focused on winning game three as a team.”
