Broncos recruit Roberts excites Milford

Brisbane recruit James Roberts is an “x-factor” player who’ll prove a crucial addition for the NRL grand finalists.

That’s the view of five-eighth Anthony Milford who is excited by what he has seen of the new arrival at the Broncos.

Roberts was one of the key off-season recruits at Red Hill after a contract bungle allowed him to move away from Queensland rivals Gold Coast.

With Justin Hodges retired and Dale Copley heading to Sydney Roosters this week, the Broncos still have plenty of options in their centres according to Milford.

“It’s exciting times for the club,” Milford said.

“We’ve got two quality strike centres on either end.

“I’m sure whoever gets the ball will play their best.”

Milford has also ruled out travelling with the Broncos to next month’s NRL Nines in Auckland.

The 21-year-old believes he’ll be better served by playing in the pre-season trial against North Queensland in Bundaberg on February 6.

“I think I’ll get more out of it if I go and play a game where I’m getting 80 minutes or 60 at least,” he said.
