Leading Australian bookmaker Eskander’s Betstar has predicted Sea Moon to start favourite in next week’s Caulfield Cup should trainer Lloyd Williams chose to run him.

Sea Moon’s Caulfield Cup price was slashed from $21 to $11 following victory in the Herbert Power Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.

“It was a great tactical ride by Hugh Bowman to go forward and sit on speed in a slowly run race, “Betstar’s Alan Eskander said.

“Sea Moon has been first past the post at his last two starts, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see the horse back up in the Caulfield Cup, given Lloyd seemed happy with his Melbourne Cup weight when they were released.

“We’ve slashed his price from $21 into $11 in the Caulfield Cup and if he runs next week, I believe he will be starting closer to favourite than double figure odds.”

“Could this be his horse to win the Caulfield and Melbourne Cup with the penalty he will be given? We all know he was the highest rated horse ever brought to Australia, and I believe he will only get better at his next few starts.”

Hawkspur is currently the favourite for the Caulfield Cup at $4.40 with Betstar, while Royal Descent is second in betting at $7.

Silent Achiever has shortened from $10 into $9, while Masked Marvel has drifted from $17 out to $21.
