Jade Marauder out to find form in Angst Stakes

Of Chris Waller’s stakes runners in Sydney and Melbourne on Saturday, one horse is presenting the premier trainer with a special challenge.

Waller has Group One contenders in Vilanova (Spring Champion Stakes) and Foreteller (Caulfield Stakes) but it is an out-of-form mare who might provide the most satisfaction if she can win at Randwick.

Jade Marauder is one of the outsiders in the Angst Stakes, a Group Three race for fillies and mares.

And her $15 quote is reflective of a run of outs since placings in the Furious Stakes and Tea Rose Stakes during last year’s spring carnival.

Waller says Jade Marauder is paying the penalty for her Sweet Embrace Stakes win as a two-year-old and last season’s black-type placings.

“Things have gone a bit pear-shaped for her since then but she has been hard to place,” Waller said.

“What makes it difficult for her is there are few open-class mares races programmed.”

Waller, however, was heartened by her last-start effort in the Tibbie Stakes at Newcastle.

“My main objective is to get her back in form and she didn’t have any luck at Newcastle,” he said.

Coming from last, Jade Marauder was beaten less than two lengths into seventh place behind Vaquera in the Tibbie.

Seven mares who ran in the Tibbie will figure in the Angst with the form already working out after Sharnee Rose, who finished 10th in the wrong part of the track at Newcastle, won the Golden Pendant.
