Eye-catching quartet for Hong Kong Jockey Club at Magic Millions

The Hong Kong Jockey Club came away from the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale with four colts purchased for a combined outlay of AU$1.88 million (approx. HK$10.62 million).

The first of the quartet to pass through the ring was Lot 213 – a bay colt by I Am Invincible out of the mare Lipari for AU$600,000. The youngster is a half-brother to Levendi – the high-class winner of a cracking 2018 G1 Australian Derby (2400m) when defeating Ace High – winner of the 2017 G1 Victoria Derby (2500m) and 2017 G1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m).

Lipari has had three other foals to win, including Wu Gok and Marcel From Madrid – winner of the G3 National Stakes (1200m) at his second start, while the latest of her progeny to hit the track is Too Much Lippy – a two-time winner from four starts in Australia through 2021.

Lot 336 fell the Club’s way for AU$500,000 – an athletic son of Deep Field – sire of Sky Field who claimed the 2021 HK$24 million G1 LONGINES Hong Kong Sprint (1200m) last December. Deep Field’s recent exploits in Hong Kong include Californiadeepshot, My Sugar, Everyone’s Victory and The Golden Scenery – all winners this season.

The Club added a second of Deep Field’s current crop to their haul – securing Lot 684 for AU$400,000. The striking chestnut colt is out of the mare Whistling Dixie, dam of two foals to race – both winners.

The Club wrapped up its involvement with Lot 915 – an attractive son of the brilliant Pierro for AU$380,000. A five-time G1 winner and 11-time winner from 14 starts overall – Pierro’s progeny have continued to set the track alight for their sire since his stud career commenced, notably with 2019 BMW Hong Kong Derby (2000m) hero Furore, as well as G1 winners Arcadia Queen, Regal Power, Pierata, Shadow Hero and Pinot.
