Tasmania 273 runs ahead of SA in Shield

Tasmania have halted their first innings with an imposing 273-run lead over South Australia in the Sheffield Shield game in Adelaide.

The Tigers’ innings ended when Jason Krejza was dismissed for 84 before tea on Friday’s third day.

Tasmania were 9-399 but opener Mark Cosgrove retired hurt on Thursday and did not resume batting.

Krejza fell short of posting his maiden century for Tasmania, while Ricky Ponting top scored with 130.

Redbacks pacemen Joe Mennie and Peter George and off-spinner Nathan Lyon all took three wickets.

Tasmania, who bowled SA out for 126, banked first-innings points to take them to 30 on the Shield table – equal with Queensland and just two points behind leaders Western Australia.
