SA openers put on 100 v Tigers in Shield

Captain Michael Klinger scored a half-century to lead South Australia’s bat for survival against Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield match in Adelaide.

The Redbacks were 0-103 in their second innings at stumps on Friday’s third day, some 170 runs behind Tasmania.

Klinger was unbeaten on 67 with his opening partner Tom Stray not out 31.

The SA openers resisted Tasmania, who posted 399 to take a whopping 273-run first innings lead.

Tasmania’s innings was highlighted by 130 to Ricky Ponting, while Jason Krejza made 84 – his highest score for the Tigers.

Redbacks bowlers Nathan Lyon, Peter George and Joe Mennie each claimed three wickets.
