SA bat for survival against Tasmania

South Australia are batting for survival against a Ricky Ponting-inspired Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield match in Adelaide.

The Redbacks were 0-19 in their second innings at tea on Friday’s third day, trailing Tasmania’s first innings total by 254 runs.

The Tigers posted 9-399 as Ponting top scored with 130 and spinner Jason Krejza made 84.

Krejza’s dismissal ended the innings as opener Mark Cosgrove did not return after retiring hurt when struck on his left hand on Thursday.

SA pacemen Joe Mennie and Peter George each took three wickets, as did Test spinner Nathan Lyon, who claimed 3-111 from 36 overs.

Lyon captured the prized wicket of Ponting, but not before the former Australian captain logged his 76th first-class ton.

SA were bowled out in their first innings for 126.
