Rogers again falls short of Test hundred

Australia opener Chris Rogers has again fallen short of his fifth Test century, scoring 95 on the first day of the fourth Test against India at the SCG, his fifth successive half-century.

After racking up scores of 55, 55, 57 and 69 in the last two Test in Brisbane and Melbourne, Rogers looked destined to join David Warner as an Australian centurion but was bowled by Indian speedster Mohammed Shami for 95.

Rogers attempted to force the ball through the off side off the back foot but played on to be bowled on the fifth ball of the 46th over to leave Australia 2-204 almost midway through Tuesday’s second session.

Rogers threw his head back in frustration and cut a despondent figure as he walked off in the ground in what the 37-year-old has acknowledged will likely be his final Test on home soil.

Earlier, David Warner (101) brought up an emotional hundred in the first international at the SCG since Phil Hughes was struck by a bouncer at the ground in November.
