Power sidelined until start of AFL season

Greater Western Sydney co-captain Luke Power is out of action until round one of the AFL season after suffering a hamstring injury.

The Giants have confirmed that Power hurt the muscle last week at training and they are hopeful he will be ready for the start of the regular season.

It has been a rough few days for AFL skippers, with Brisbane’s Jonathan Brown needing surgery on Wednesday after suffering a depressed cheekbone fracture in a training collision.

New Melbourne co-captain Jack Grimes also hurt his shoulder at training on Wednesday and will be out for a fortnight.

Carlton captain Chris Judd is yet to play this pre-season after shoulder surgery.

But Collingwood’s Nick Maxwell and Essendon’s Jobe Watson will resume in the weekend’s NAB Cup games, while Adelaide have rested Nathan van Berlo.
