News:
Lucia Valentina has had her first look around the track where she will attempt to win the $3 million Caulfield Cup in a few weeks.
The Kris Lees-trained Lucia Valentina has the Caulfield Cup on October 18 as a spring target and is challenging for favouritism for the 2400m feature.
But first she will make her introduction to Melbourne racing when she attempts to win the second Group One of her career in Saturday’s Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington in which she is expected to be one of the favourites.
“She arrived in Melbourne on Sunday morning and settled in well,” Lees said.
“She just had an easy gallop this morning on the course proper at Caulfield. All is well.”
Last season’s Vinery Stud Stakes winner resumed with a barnstorming win in the Tramway Handicap (1400m) on a heavy track before hitting the line nicely again second-up when beaten less than three lengths in the George Main Stakes (1600m).
“You always wait and see how the fillies come back their next preparation but she seems to have come back really well,” Lees said.
“This will be her biggest test to date on Saturday.”
Kerrin McEvoy continues his association with Lucia Valentina in the Turnbull.
