Davis Cup action heading back to Brisbane

Brisbane will host Australia’s Davis Cup playoff tie against Korea from April 6-8.

Cup captain Pat Rafter is looking forward to leading his team on hard court at the stadium named in his honour.

“The weather and the court are ideal for the boys and the conditions will definitely boost our chances of winning,” Rafter said on Thursday.

Seeking a return to the World Group for the first time since 2007, Australia’s team of Bernard Tomic, Lleyton Hewitt, Matt Ebden and Chris Guccione whitewashed China 5-0 in their first-round Asia-Oceania zonal tie in Geelong last month.

Victory over Korea would thrust Australia into a World Group playoff in September.

“Both Bernard (Tomic) and Matt (Ebden) have had some excellent wins at the Brisbane International so it’s a huge positive for them to return to a place where they’ve already achieved great results,” Rafter said.

“I know the Queensland fans will want to come out and support us, always a huge bonus at Davis Cup, and we look forward to doing them proud.”
