It is no surprise to find the Wildcats and United fighting it out for the title again after both sides cruised through the season quite comfortably.

There are five games scheduled in this series, but Perth has the added luxury of playing the first two at home – an obvious advantage against a Melbourne outfit that hasn’t faced a true away atmosphere in a couple of weeks.

As far as recent history is concerned, Melbourne has enjoyed this matchup a little more with six wins from their last 10 meetings, and it’s worth noting the last two have come on the road in Perth.

With that in mind, it’s no real surprise to find the bookies firmly with United ahead of Game 1, especially after the way they dominated the Phoenix in two of their three games last week.

Also working in Melbourne’s favour is the emergence of Jock Landale.

The 25-year-old has quietly been having a very productive season, but it appears he’s saved his best for the finals after a pair of 25+ point games against South East Melbourne.

With Bryce Cotton still out for the Wildcats, Landale’s recent form only complicates matters for a Perth team that had its hands full against the Hawks through three games last week.

There’s no doubt this series could easily go more than three games, but with a little more firepower and some motivation to end Perth’s three-peat, Melbourne looks a good bet to open this series with a win.
