Up-and-coming star Xtremetime headed for a spell

Up-and-coming star Xtremetime has been sent to the spelling paddock after her tough win in the Woodlands Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.

The two-year-old is bypassing the Queensland winter carnival and will be targeted toward the Princess Series in the spring after her narrow 0.09 length victory.

It was the daughter of Extreme Choice’s second win of her three-start career, only building on the hype she received after her maiden win at Canterbury in April.

Her trainer John Thompson says Xtremetime has shown ability from the very start.

“She’s a promising filly. From day one she showed above average ability,” he said.

“I was just impressed how first-up, she jumped, led and dictated and then held off the challengers. Then improved off the back of that from a wide draw on Saturday, come from the back of the field and went right around them and beat them.

“It was 1200m first up and then 1100m on Saturday, so I dare say she was probably looking for further than 1100 on Saturday so it was a credit to her to get up and win.”

Xtremetime drew barrier 10 of 11 for the Listed feature and settled worse than midfield during the run.

She levelled up with the leader Ashema with 100 metres to travel and the pair fought it out right to the finish line, with the daughter of Extreme Choice winning by the barest of margins.

The two-year-old is now proven on good and soft tracks but will spend the winter months spelling and preparing for tougher assignments in her future.

Xtremetime is a Magic Millions yearling purchase, but Thompson is worrying about her next campaign before looking towards the Gold Coast in January.

“I haven’t really thought that far ahead, but at this stage we’ll get through the spring and worry about it after that,” he said.

“She’s having a month out and she’ll come back for the three-year-old princess series in Sydney, the 4 three-year-old fillies races.”
