Two-year-old filly Inhabit will be chasing a ticket to Queensland on Saturday as she looks to extend her unbeaten record.
After scoring on debut at Murray Bridge in October, she lines up in the Sportsbet Same Race Multi Two-Year-Old Plate (1000m) at Morphettville Parks.
Her task has been made easier by the withdrawal of three of the six original acceptors, leaving only two rivals.
Trainer Michael Hickmott hopes that a victory will earn Inhabit a place in the field for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 17.
Before that, Hickmott plans to run her in the Aquis Gold Pearl (1100m) on January 10, although a win this weekend is crucial.
“If she wins on Saturday, she should get enough prize money to qualify for the two-year-old race up there,” Hickmott said.
“The plan would be for her to go up there the week before and run in the 1100-metre fillies’ race and then back up into the Magic Millions the following week.
“We’re getting a little bit ahead of ourselves as she needs to win on Saturday first to get the prize money on the board and then she’s probably earned her way to go up there.”
Hickmott said it would be exciting to take the filly north for two runs during the Magic Millions carnival.
Inhabit is owned by an all-female group that includes Hickmott’s wife, members of prominent owner John O’Neill’s family, and Victoria Racing Club chief executive Kylie Rogers.
“She’s a female owned horse, so she will be running for the Lady bonuses as well up there,” Hickmott said.
“There are some good owners in this filly, and it would be good to get them all up there.
“There would be a rather large party up there regardless of whether she wins or not, and we just now need to get her up there qualified.”
