Pettersen nails ace, widens lead in Taiwan

Defending champion Suzann Pettersen nailed a hole-in-one en route to a 3-under 69 as she extended her lead to five strokes after the second round at the Sunrise Championship on Friday.

Pettersen’s ace on the 133-yard second hole helped her finish at 7-under after 36 holes, comfortably ahead of Sun Young Yoo and Carlota Ciganda at 2-under.

Australian Katherine Hull-Kirk hit a second round 70 to be a further shot back in a tie for fourth.

“It was a very good shot,” Norwegian Pettersen said of her ace.

“I called the shot, hit it exactly how I wanted and was fortunate enough that I had a good break.”

Pettersen’s hole-in-one, the 19th on the LPGA Tour this year, came on one of the two holes she bogeyed during her first round 68 on Thursday.

Her drive on Friday landed near the centre of the green, about 10 yards from the cup, before rolling in.

Yani Tseng, the 2011 Sunrise champion, shot a 6-over 78, leaving her 17 strokes off the pace.
