After a somewhat underwhelming Opening Round, the highly anticipated Grand Final rematch is here as the Lions aim to secure their first win of the season against the Swans at the SCG.

The last encounter between these two teams was a lopsided affair, with the Lions dominating the Swans by a staggering 10 goals in what became the most one-sided Grand Final since Geelong’s triumph over Port Adelaide in 2007.

Chris Fagan has since bolstered his squad with the addition of Levi Ashcroft, brother of Norm Smith Medallist Will, as the Lions chase back-to-back premierships. However, they face the challenge of replacing Joe Daniher, who has retired, and Lincoln McCarthy, who has re-injured the same knee that kept him sidelined last year.

On the other hand, the Swans are eager to rebound after their loss to the Hawks last week. A second consecutive defeat at the SCG would put them in a precarious position early in the season.

Matt Roberts impressed with 26 disposals across half-back, but the Swans’ injury woes continue to mount. Taylor Adams (hamstring) is the latest addition to a growing list of sidelined players, joining Errol Gulden (ankle), Callum Mills (foot), Logan McDonald (ankle), and Harry Cunningham (foot).

With the Lions having won 15 of their last 16 opening quarters, the Swans face an uphill battle to keep pace. Given their extensive injury list, it’s difficult to see them overcoming the odds in this clash.
