New Zealand defender Winston Reid is in talks with English Premier League club West Ham to extend his contract.
Reid, 24, has started all 18 Premiership games for the 12th-placed London club so far this season and impressed in the heart of a defensive line that is the competition’s fifth stingiest.
He told the Daily Star he was enjoying his third season with West Ham since leaving Danish side FC Midtjylland in August 2010 following his performances for the All Whites at the World Cup.
“We are talking. There’s an option in there for both parties to take another two years at the end of the season,” he said.
“I’ve always wanted to stay here. I enjoy being here.”
Reid, nicknamed the ‘Maori Monster’ by West Ham fans, has been praised more than once this season by manager Sam Allardyce, who said re-signing the former Denmark age group representative was a priority.
