The Australian Rugby League Commission will take their time to consider lifting Robert Lui’s one-year playing ban after the North Queensland Cowboys halfback stated his case in Sydney on Thursday night.

ARLC interim boss Shane Mattiske would give no time frame on when a decision would be made on Lui, who was placed on a two-year good behaviour bond and fined $2000 in April after admitting to assaulting his girlfriend Taleah Backo while he was a player at Wests Tigers.

Cowboys chief executive Peter Jourdain and the club’s player welfare manager Kevin Marty accompanied Lui to Sydney, reportedly with a promising statement from a psychologist and a list of the banned player’s community work in Townsville.

Apart from providing an update on Lui, it is believed the Cowboys also sought clarification on the ban’s terms and whether their suspended playmaker could be allowed to play lower-tier football such as the Queensland Cup.

Mattiske gave no deadline on when a decision would be made and would not comment on whether Lui could at least be allowed to play for a Cowboys feeder club this year.
