Trainer Ciaron Maher and jockey Craig Williams will look to make it two straight victories in the prestigious The Everest after Godolphin confirmed their promising filly Tempted will run in its slot for the 2025 edition.
Maher and Williams combined last year when Bella Nipotina produced a thrilling performance to capture the Group 1 The Everest (1200m) at Randwick, and the duo will again partner with a strong contender for the $20 million sprint on October 18.
The announcement leaves just one remaining slot to be filled, with Yulong Investments searching for a replacement after Private Harry was sent to the paddock for a spell.
Tempted’s form line speaks volumes. As a two-year-old, she was a dual Group 2 winner and placed third in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m). Now a three-year-old, she has added the Group 2 Run To The Rose to her résumé and ran a gallant third behind stablemate Beiwacht in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m).
Godolphin Australia’s Managing Director Andy Makiv said Tempted perfectly encapsulates the breeding and racing excellence the operation strives for.
“Tempted is a top-class filly. She’s in great form and three-year-olds have a strong record in a race like The Everest,” Makiv said.
“She represents everything we stand for at Godolphin. She’s by one of our shuttle stallions, and was bred, raised, and developed across our farms. To see her line up in The Everest is a proud moment for everyone involved.”
Maher’s stable is no stranger to success in the world’s richest turf race, and with Tempted’s explosive turn of foot and proven form against elite opposition, the partnership looms as a serious threat to the established stars.
