Opener Phil Hughes has become the first Australian player to make a century on his one-day international debut.
The 24-year-old South Australia left-hander was unbeaten on 100 from 123 deliveries at the 38-over mark of Australia’s innings in their opening ODI clash with Sri Lanka at the MCG on Friday.
Australia were 2-200 with skipper George Bailey on 76.
Hughes has become the eighth player in ODI history to score a hundred on debut. His century included 12 boundaries.
