Bale hurts ankle in Basel match

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas is hopeful that an ankle injury to star player Gareth Bale is “not as bad as it looked”.

Wales midfielder Bale appeared to turn his right ankle towards the end of the 2-2 draw with FC Basel in the Europa League on Thursday.

Bale will miss Sunday’s Premier League clash with Everton and the return leg against Basel but Villas-Boas believes that may be all.

“It shouldn’t be as bad as it looks on the image,” the Portuguese said.

“There is a big, big possibility if we stay positive that he will be fit for the Man City game (on April 21) and it will only take him out of two games.”

Bale will have a scan on the injury later on Friday.

“He rolled on his ankle, at the moment there is a lot of pain, but hopefully not as bad as it could have been,” Villas-Boas said.

Bale has scored 22 goals in 38 appearances for Tottenham, helping them to fourth spot in the Premier League.
