Golden Slipper 2013 Results – What the jockeys said

What the jockeys said after the $3.5 million Group One Golden Slipper at Rosehill on Saturday.

TOMMY BERRY (Overreach) 1st: “Everyone was talking about pressure but I’ve never felt more relaxed going into a big race. I rode her like she was the best horse. She flew the gates, put herself right there and she put them away like she has every start this preparation.”

KERRIN McEVOY (Sidestep) 2nd: “He didn’t have a smooth run but he has run as well as he could. Super effort.”

JIM CASSIDY (Sweet Idea) 3rd: “She ran enormous. I knew I had to be in front of her (Overreach) to beat her and she still beat us easy. The winner is brilliant and just better than the rest.”

CHRISTIAN REITH (Guelph) 4th: “Her run was super. Already looking for the seven furlongs (1400m) but attacked the line very strong.”

STEVEN ARNOLD (Fast `N’ Rocking) 5th: “I thought his run was really good. He was scrambling around the corner on that ground and wasn’t enjoying it but once I got balanced right up in the straight he hit the line really well. He just wants seven furlongs and a mile.”

HUGH BOWMAN (Criterion) 6th: “My horse went great. It’s not his type of race. Get him to a mile, he’ll be up to that.”

MICHAEL RODD (Villa Verde) 7th: She has run well. She got the 100 metre mark and was like she never really got through the ground great. She wanted to hang in and roll around a bit.

GLYN SCHOFIELD (Charlie Boy) 8th: He ran well. Got a bit of interference at the start from both sides but he finished the race off well.

PETER ROBL (Windjammer) 9th: Ran a very good race. Didn’t have a lot of luck from the barrier but is looking for seven furlongs or a mile. He’s a nice horse.

BRENTON AVDULLA (I’m All The Talk) 10th: We ended up finding a nice spot, three-deep with cover but we just got turned sideways before the corner and he just didn’t finish his race off after that.

TIM CLARK (Va Pensiero) 11th: He got bashed around a fair bit but still was pretty game hitting the line. His run was better than it looked.

JAMES McDONALD (Romantic Moon) 12th: She just raced like a real 1400 metre horse.

NASH RAWILLER (Whittington) 13th: He might have had enough. He raced a little upside down and didn’t handle the ground real well.

JOSH PARR (Kuroshio) 14th: He gave them a show for a little while.

CRAIG WILLIAMS (Ruud Awakening) 15th: We ended up not flying the start so we used plan B and went back. We followed Villa Verde into the run but just never really travelled like I thought she was going to.

COREY BROWN (Dothraki) 16th: Didn’t back up but he’s a lovely horse. Next time in he’ll make a nice horse.
