Waratah Horne cited for dangerous tackle

NSW centre Rob Horne has been cited by SANZAR for his dangerous tackle on Melbourne fullback Kurtley Beale in Saturday night’s Super Rugby clash at Allianz Stadium.

Horne is accused of “lifting a player from the ground and dropping or driving that player’s head or upper body into the ground whilst that player’s feet are still off the ground”.

The incident occurred in the 60th minute of the match won by the Waratahs 30-21, and resulted in Horne being yellow carded.

In their review of the tackle, the SANZAR Citing Commissioner deemed the incident met the Red Card threshold, and Horne should have been sent from the field.

The Waratahs are currently working through the judiciary process with SANZAR.

NSW captain Benn Robinson said he was “shocked” Queensland rivals Quade Cooper and Digby Ioane had tweeted their opinions on Horne’s tackle and what suspension he should receive.

Ioane was handed a lengthy suspension earlier this year for a dangerous tackle, something SANZAR seem determined to stamp out of the game.
