Read back in action for the Crusaders

All Blacks loose forward Kieran Read returns to the Crusaders starting line-up for this Friday’s Super Rugby match against the Highlanders in Christchurch.

The Crusaders No.8 has been out of action since falling heavily from a lineout and injuring his pelvis in the 28-19 loss to the Rebels in Melbourne nearly three weeks ago.

Read’s inclusion is one of three changes made by coach Todd Blackadder to the team which beat the Blues 59-12 two weeks ago.

Ben Franks replaces brother Owen at tighthead prop, while Read’s inclusion allows Richie McCaw to move back to the openside flank and Matt Todd returns to the bench as the Crusaders come off the bye.

Crusaders: Israel Dagg, Adam Whitelock, Robbie Fruean, Ryan Crotty, Zac Guildford, Dan Carter, Andy Ellis, Kieran Read, Richie McCaw (captain), George Whitelock, Sam Whitelock, Luke Romano, Ben Franks, Corey Flynn, Wyatt Crockett. Reserves: Quentin MacDonald, Owen Franks, Tom Donnelly, Matt Todd, Willi Heinz, Tom Taylor, Tom Marshall.
