Ex-Wallabies hooker Freier retires

Former Wallabies hooker Adam Freier has confirmed he is retiring from rugby union.

The 32-year-old suffered a calf muscle injury in the Melbourne Rebels’ last Super Rugby match against the Lions in Johannesburg which will keep him from their season-ending match against the Stormers in Cape Town this weekend but had already made a decision on his future.

Freier started his career with the Brumbies and then moved to the NSW Waratahs where he made 80 appearances.

He has spent the past two seasons with Melbourne but injuries limited him to just 12 games.

He made his debut for the Wallabies in 2002, in a Test against Argentina, and earned 16 Test caps.
