James Magnussen drifts for mens 100m freestyle gold medal

Olympic punters have abandoned James Magnussen ahead of the Men’s 100m Freestyle with the swim sensation’s odds of winning gold in the event more than doubling.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said punters reacted strongly to Magnussen’s disappointing performance in the Men’s 4 x 100m freestyle.

“He’s been a big drifter, before last night’s final he was a hot $1.26 favourite to take out the Men’s 100m freestyle but he’s now blown right out to $1.57,” Sullivan said.

“Magnussen’s still clear favourite to win the 100m but punters aren’t knocking down our door after he failed to impress in the relay”.

Australia’s other hope in the event, James Roberts, is also on the nose with punters and has drifted out to $9.00 from $6.50.

Frenchmen Yannick Agnel is now the second favourite and his odds have been slashed from $21 to $4.50 after leading France to a gold medal in the relay.

“Prior to the relay punters only had eyes for Magnusson but now they’re looking at other options,” Sullivan said.
