Knights Houston ready for Canterbury

Newcastle forward Chris Houston is relishing the opportunity to end Canterbury’s run of nine straight wins as the Knights look to maintain their late push for the NRL finals.

But don’t ask him how, with the back-rower admitting he doesn’t watch rugby league in his spare time and hasn’t seen any of Canterbury’s recent red-hot performances.

“I haven’t even watched much footy this year to tell you the truth,” he said.

“But I know they’re going well because I’ve heard rumours from around the traps that they’re on a bit of a winning streak and they’re a good side.

“Des (Hasler) is obviously coaching them well and they’ll be hard to beat.”

The Knights have won their last three games and sit outside the top-eight on points differential following an impressive display against Canberra – their third win in as many games.

It’s a complete contrast to earlier in the year where the side lost five straight and looked destined for a battle for the wooden spoon.

Bennett’s team have also beaten the Bulldogs this season with an assured display in round four, but Houston insists no-one at the club is getting carried away with their good run.

“We’ve all been working hard here and it is paying off,” he said.

“There’s a good mood in the camp at the moment and everyone is enjoying their footy.

“Everyone is having fun, but we are not doing a great deal different to before, but we have been executing things better.”
