Queensland’s Sunshine Coast is not known for registering earthquakes.
But Coolum residents may have felt a tremor on Friday morning when giant 122kg Queensland forward Dave Taylor — nicknamed the Coal Train — cleaned up his State of Origin coach Mal Meninga during a field season at their training base.
Team joker Sam Thaiday couldn’t resist the chance to take advantage of the amusing situation, rushing to Meninga’s aid and pretending to perform CPR on his coach.
The incident was met with considerable laughter from players and the assistant coaching staff as both Taylor and Meninga crashed to the ground from the impact.
Smashing your coach is never a wise idea.
But in Taylor’s defence he may still have been suffering the effects of a recent head knock after reportedly falling out of bed earlier the week.
Taylor was taking the ball up in a drill with Meninga in the defensive line.
As Taylor closed on Meninga, the former Queensland and Australia player raised his right forearm to protect himself.
“That would have got him six weeks,” joked one amused onlooker.
