A race for the 3yo fillies sees a field of fifteen entered. Punters have correctly identified the G3 Champagne Stakes as the race that should produce the winner here with all three favourites – Hoss Amor and Elite Elle ($4.00) and Saturn Rock ($5.00) all having their last starts in that race.

1. SNIPZU

QLD runner representing the Liam Birchley yard who has struggled in her five runs this preparation. The best of these runs was his lastest when second in a Doomben Open at 30/1 carrying 54.5.

2. HOSS AMOR

Like the other leading chances here, she comes out of the G3 Champagne Stakes where she finished second (beaten 1.8 lengths) behind Snitzerland. That was her first run in eleven weeks and will prove very hard to hold out here.

3. CAVALRY ROSE

Ran second, beaten a nose in the G2 Magic Night Stakes as a 2yo and resumed her three year old campaign with a disappointing eighth of nine in the Silver Shadow. Slightly better last start when held her position in the run home, beaten 2.7 lengths by Urban Groove in the Listed Reginald Allen. Draw here doesn’t help one that’s looking for some form.

4. ARMED FOR ACTION

She won her first two starts – both in Adelaide before third in the G1 Blue Diamond and a fourth in the G3 Breeders Stakes before being spelled. Her two runs back this prep though have left a lot to be desired in the Listed Cap D’antibes and G3 Champagne Stakes where she has been beaten 9.2 and 9.8 lengths respectively.

5. ELITE ELLE

Shamardal filly who won her first four races in succession before a narrow third in the G3 McNeil Stakes and, at her last start, fourth (beaten 2.7) in the G3 Champagne Stakes. Draw here doesn’t help as she generally likes to race on the speed and that might, like it did last start where she led, leave her a little vulnerable late.

6. FORMIDABLE

She ran second in the Listed Chairman’s and second again in the G3 BD Prelude as a two year old but she’s another that hasn’t been able to reproduce that form this season. Two starts this prep have resulted in seventh (beaten 10) in the Listed Quezette – after which she was given a seven week let-up – and returned with a last of eight in a RST 89.

7. CLINKING

Won two from four as a 2yo and returned with an average effort (sixth, beaten 7.5) in the G3 Champagne Stakes. She would have to improve a lot of lengths to figure in the finish here.

8. SATURN ROCK

Although her only win was on her debut in New Zealand, she’s been placed at six of her subsequent seven starts including her last start third behind Snitzerland. Never shirked her task on that occasion and will be getting home hard again here, a definite threat.

9. CIAO

Had a crack at a good race but was well accounted for in the G2 Furious Stakes. Got back to the right grade last start – BM 67 (1400m) but will probably find a few of these too slick.

10. OMNISCIENT

Darley runner that won well first up at Canterbury and solid when leading in the Listed Cap D’antibes before finishing third behind the inform Members Joy. Draw wide and settled handy in the Champagne but no match for them late and ran seventh beaten 8.3 lengths.

11. MAREEZA

Won two from two first prep but just been a length or two off the pace in three runs back this time in. Her latest start was a little over a month ago where she settled on the pace and battled on well in a BM 78 race behind Bloomingdale Miss.

13. ROLL THE BONES

Only had the three starts to date, the latest was a cheeky effort when leading in the Listed Reginald Allen before feeling the pinch late and finishing third (beaten 2 lengths) behind Urban Groove. Has some upside but pity about the draw.

14. ZORIA

Half to Lights In Heaven who broke her debut last start by winning a Bendigo Maiden (1300m). Led on that occasion and expect her to do the same but would have to have improved on last start.

15. SHEZA SINGLE GIRL – Scratched

OVERVIEW

Really like Hoss Amor and Saturn Rock here. Both very good last start in the Champagne Stakes, both drawn well and represent good value at their current prices. Given her draw and her run compared to that of the two abovementioned runner, that Elite Elle would be a few points more than her current quote.
