1. ALBRECHT

Well bred Redoute’s Choice colt from the Darley yard who has improved with each of his starts to-date. Won the G3 Up and Coming Stakes two starts back after camping on the speed and then, at his most recent start, stormed home only to be out-bobbed by stable-mate Epaulette in the G1 Golden Rose. A repeat performance sees him go one better here.

Odds: $2.00

2. KABAYAN

He was very good in the G3 McNeil Stakes (2nd) when resuming at Caulfield before seemingly having his chance last start behind Epaulette, in the Golden Rose. Showed enough prior to last start to be given another go here. Don’t underestimate.

Odds: $2.10

3. TROPHIES

Lining up for his eleventh career start – all of which have been in Black Type events however has started at 25/1 or longer on each occasion. He has two seconds to his name, one of them coming at his most recent start when he chased home the impressive Proisir in the G3 Spring Stakes (beaten 5.8) at 100/1. Win here would surprise.

Odds: $15.00

4. MAGIC SHIFT

NZ’er who came to Australia with a Listed win to his credit from his five starts. Made his Australian debut three weeks ago in the Ming Dynasty and was safely held by Tatra, beaten 5.3 lengths. Draw wide on the occasion and from a better draw, might be incline to race in a forward position.

Odds: $17.00

5. FIVEANDHALFSTARS

Has had a dip at some Black Type races in the past with his best effort being a fourth in the Listed Fernhill (1600m) on a Heavy Track at 40/1. However, fact remains that from his nine starts thus far he has yet to record a win and will find this a lot harder than his first up run at Kembla a fortnight ago, where he ran second.

Odds: $67.00

6. DIVINE MOON

God’s Own colt who has had two starts for his trainer Bart Cummings – both Maiden events, one at Canterbury (8th, beaten 7.9) and Kembla (3rd, beaten 1.7). He has got a long way back on both occasions and can’t see him being able to run some of his compeititors down at this stage of his career.

Odds: $101.00

7. MAMA’S CHOICE

Melbourne filly taking on the boys who has had two starts this time in. First up she was third behind the smart filly Commanding Jewel and then good again behind the ultra impressive Love For Ransom, finishing fourth beaten less then two lengths. In a race of little depth, from her inside draw, she might worth including in multiples.

Odds: $15.00

OVERVIEW

Think the New Zealand, Magic Shift might be forward here and despite drawing wide, expect Albrecht, who has raced handy with success previously, to push forward. In early markets it’s Albrecht ($1.90) holding a slight call over Kabayan ($2.10) and they are clearly the top two picks here.
Think Magic Shift is capable of a better effort here and to round out the top four picks, David Hayes trained Mama’s Choice.
