The A.J. Moir Stakes is a race for three years old horses and over, with this event just approved for upgrade to the elite Group 1 level. Originally known as the A.J. Moir Stakes, this event was also been known as the Schweppes Stakes between 1997 and 2011. Held over a distance of 1200 metres, the A.J. Moir Stakes normally attracts a number of high quality sprinters, and takes place at Monnee Valley Racing Club each year.

This race has gone through a number of changes over the years, originally run as a Principal race over a distance of 1000 metres. While the race graduated to Group 2 status in 1979, the distance was not increased to 1200 metres until very recently in 2007. The name has also undergone some changes, changing from the A.J. Moir Stakes to the Schweppes Stakes in 1997 and also being called the Schweppervescence Stakes between 2003 and 2007.
The A.J. Moir Stakes has been won by a number of fine horses over the years, who are attracted by the $300,000 in prize money and $5000 trophy that is up for grabs. Some of the more notable winners include With Me who scored a double in 1990 and 91, Schillaci in 1992, Falvelon in 2002, Apache Cat in 2009, and Black Caviar in 2010.
The 2011 edition of the Schweppes Stakes was won by Black Caviar, making it two victories in a row for this amazing horse. A big crowd came out to cheer Black Caviar in what was a small field, and she didn’t let them down winning from Doubtful Jack in second and Here De Angels in third.
