Race 1 – 3:40pm AEDT – Ive Plate (1300m)
Spring Valley presents third-up and has been racing as though 1300m will suit.
The Peter Moody-trained filly has found the money in two of her three starts to date, including last time out at Stony Creek where she overcame an awkward start to finish off well for third.
The daughter of Sebring is still a little green, but if she finds the clear again late, she should go close.
Race 2 – 4:15pm AEDT – TBA
Tricky race to line up, but it should be a good form reference heading into the Sires’ Produce next month at Flemington.
Water Bomber has been good in two runs to date finding the line for fourth on both occasions.
He debuted to run three lengths third in a Group 3 at Flemington on Cup Day last year and was quickly sent back to the paddock in time for the autumn.
The son of Headwater resumed two weeks ago over 1200m at Pakenham, a form line that reads okay with third place getter Ribble Ribble going on to run okay in the Blue Diamond Prelude last week.
He’ll probably be better suited over further, but he’s got the turn of foot to at least run a place here.
Race 3 – 4:50pm AEDT – TBA
Hereforagoodtime has cost punters plenty in the past, but he’s tough to knock coming off a good win at Geelong a few weeks ago over shorter.
Damien Thornton rode him beautifully that day and he seemed to win with plenty in hand, so that effort suggests 2400m should be no issue for him at this stage of his prep.
Jye McNeil has won on him previously, and although this is tougher, Hereforagoodtime looks capable of going on with it.
Race 4 – 5:25pm AEDT – TBA
Aspen Colorado won his maiden over this journey at Casterton last time in where he put paid to his rivals with a massive six-length win.
He’s since resumed to run a clear second at Warrnambool two weeks ago where he sat three-wide the trip before letting down beautifully down the straight to find the money.
This is a sharp step up in trip, but fitter and drawn well, he looks one of the main chances.
Race 5 – 6:00pm AEDT – TBA
Rapid Achiever was enormous over this trip on debut at Donald last year, winning by three lengths before going on to score again at Sandown over the mile.
Both of those wins came on rain-affected going but based on what she’s showed at the jump outs recently, she can still be expected to run well on top of the ground.
The Maher and Eustace-trained filly has drawn to get the box-seat and she’ll be hard to hold out late.
Race 6 – 6:30pm AEDT – TBA
Lloyd’s Crown looks well-placed here upon his return.
The three-year-old by Rebel Dane held his own in much tougher races during the spring, most notably finishing third behind Ranch Hand and Ingratiating in a Stakes race at Flemington.
He was far from disgraced last time out in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes – two strong performances that read well stepping back in grade.
Linda Meech sticks in the saddle, while the fact he won his maiden here at Sandown also reads well.
Race 7 – 7:00pm AEDT – TBA
All Stardom was a clear winner first-up at Stony Creek and looks capable of going on with it now.
The son of All Too Hard led from barrier to box thanks to a beautiful ride from Will Gordon, but it wouldn’t be surprising if Craig Williams chooses to settle off the pace here with more speed engaged.
The extra weight is the only query, but this race really doesn’t look that much tougher on paper.
Race 8 – 7:30pm AEDT – TBA
Pounding strips fitter for three runs back and looks the one to beat in the last.
This son of Exceed and Excel won by three-quarters of a length two back at Pakenham over 1400m and probably deserved to win again in his latest here at Sandown where he got a little too far back.
The form out of his Pakenham win has been very strong and the fact Brian Higgins jumps back in the saddle is an enormous plus.
