Invest wins 2012 Australasian Oaks on Black Caviar day

The Clarry Conners-trained Invest won the Group One Australasian Oaks at Morphettville on Saturday, just the second success of her 13-start career.

Ridden patiently by Peter Mertens, the daughter of Dehere out of Group One Flight Stakes winner Unearthly finished resolutely to run down Our Miss Jones in the 2000m feature.

The early leader Essence was third.

Invest had been racing very consistently without winning of late and was a last-start fourth in the traditional Australasian Oaks lead-up, the Group Three Schweppervescence Stakes (1800) at Morphettville two weeks ago.

The filly’s only previous win was in a restricted race over 1250m at Canterbury in April last year.

Saturday’s success in the $400,000 Adelaide feature took her prizemoney earnings to more than $325,000.
