Adelaide’s odds shorten in 2014 Cox Plate betting

Support is once again building for Irish galloper Adelaide to win Saturday’s Group 1 Sportingbet Cox Plate at Moonee Valley.

After being heavily backed from $9 to $5 at Sportingbet.com.au in the days prior to Tuesday’s barrier draw, Adelaide drifted to $7 after drawing wide in gate 13.

Punters have since snapped up the $7 and the Aidan O’Brien-trained son of Galileo is back into $6.50 outright second favouritism at Sportingbet.

“We’ve taken two bets of $6,000 and plenty of other four-figure wagers for Adelaide at the $7, and only Fawkner has attracted more money since Tuesday,” Sportingbet’s Andrew Brown said.

“We think Fawkner and Adelaide will be a lot closer in the market come Saturday and it this stage they are our two worst results.”

Sacred Falls maintains third favouritism at $7 with Sportingbet, but Criterion is breathing down his neck after firming from $8 into $7.50.

“Criterion’s performance was as good as, if not better than Fawkner’s last start, but you were getting double the odds for him.”

Sportingbet’s third worst result in its final field market is currently Sweynesse, who went up a $51 chance after the barrier draw but has been backed into $20 after some solid support, including one bet of $1,000 by $2,000 at the $51.
