Sri Lanka, replying to Pakistan’s first innings of 226, were 3-142 at lunch on the third day of the third and final Test in Pallekele on Tuesday.
Tharanga Paranavitana was unbeaten on 52 and Thilan Samaraweera was not out 45, with Sri Lanka 84 runs behind with seven wickets in hand.
The hosts resumed at 3-44 after Pakistan had taken the key early wickets of Kumar Sangakkara for a duck and Mahela Jayawardene for 12.
The entire second day’s play was washed out.
Sri Lanka lead the series 1-0, having won the first Test in Galle by 209 runs. The rain-hit second Test in Colombo was drawn.
