Andrew Demetriou says the language used in the Twitter attacks on four AFL identities “has no place in this country”.

The AFL boss on Friday could not hide his disgust for the social media abuse aimed at Essendon’s Sam Lonergan and Kyle Hardingham as well as senior officials Jason Mifsud and Ali Fahour.

Lonergan received death threats after his rough tackle last week on Andrew Carrazzo left the Blues tagger with a fractured shoulder blade that could sideline him for up to 10 weeks.

Police are investigating the threats on all four men.

Mifsud is the AFL’s community engagement manager and Fahour is the league’s national multicultural manager.

“We find it disgusting,” Demetriou said in Brisbane on Friday.

“All of the commentary has been forwarded to the police hopefully to pursue the perpetrator.

“That language has no place in this country.

“It is offensive. We will leave it in the hands of the authorities to try and deal with it.”
