Ramos-Vinolas wins first ATP title

Albert Ramos-Vinolas won his first career title after beating Fernando Verdasco 6-3 6-4 in the Swedish Open final.

Third-seeded Ramos-Vinolas broke his fellow Spaniard’s serve early in the first set on Sunday (Monday AEST).

Fifth-seeded Verdasco, runner-up in 2013, hadn’t lost a single set in the ATP tournament but appeared nervous and made several mistakes.

“It feels fantastic to take my first title,” said Ramos-Vinolas, who received the trophy from Swedish great Bjorn Borg.

“I thought I’d never have a chance to win a tournament because I’ve played badly in the past three years. But I think I’ve played some great tennis this year.”
