Billy Slater says he’s never aspired to be Queensland captain but isn’t ruling out taking up the role after the representative retirement of his Melbourne teammate Cameron Smith.

The veteran fullback has been touted as a possible successor to Smith, with the opening State of Origin match just three weeks away.
