The NFC East is a mess – emphasised by the fact one of these two sides, who have both won less than half of their games, will end up in top spot by the end of the weekend.

The 2-4-1 Philadelphia Eagles climbed into first with a 22-21 eclipse of the lowly Giants in Week 7. Carson Wentz pulled the Eagles back from the brink, leading them to victory in the dying seconds.

Slotting veteran Andy Dalton in for the injured Dak Prescott has not been the effective band aid the 2-5 Dallas Cowboys were hoping for. But their problems go far deeper than losing their offensive leader. Since Prescott went down, the Cowboys have been hammered 38-10 by the Cardinals and 25-3 by battling division rivals Washington. Meanwhile, Dalton is under a cloud after being concussed last week, which could see Ben DiNucci get his first NFL start.

The Cowboys romped to a 37-10 victory in Dallas last season. But the Eagles snapped a four-match losing run against the Eagles via a 17-9 home win later in the 2019 campaign.

Make no mistake: Philadelphia are not a particularly good team. But the wheels have fallen off in Dallas and it’s hard to see where their improvement emanates from.
