The 5-7 New York Giants need just one more win to record their best season since 2016, while they are holding a tenuous lead in the weak NFC East after winning their last four games on the trot.

The Giants’ scalps had been modest ones up until last weekend, when they upset the Seahawks 17-12. Their surprise-packet defence earned rave reviews for shutting down a Russell Wilson-led attack.

Meanwhile, Arizona Cardinals’ compelling case for a winning season for the first time since 2015 is in danger. Three straight losses to the Seahawks, Patriots and Rams has left the Cardinals third in the tough NFC West with a 6-6 record. The Cardinals’ overreliance on second-year quarterback Kyler Murray was exposed again in the 38-28 defeat to the Rams last week.

The Cardinals have won four of their last five against the Giants, including the last three straight at MetLife Stadium. Arizona grabbed a 27-21 victory on the road last season after racing to an early two-touchdown lead.

While tipping the Giants to win this game would have seemed incomprehensible a few weeks ago, the teams’ formlines are trending in opposite directions. Last week’s win was a landmark result for this Giants team and they should be able to shut down Murray and graft out another W.
